Also referred to as “Golden”, the golden retrievers are one of the most beloved dogs. This breed is often ranked very high if not on top, as far as the pet dogs are considered. If you like your dog should be obedient than look no further than a Golden Retriever. The breed was the first ever American Kennel Club’s (AKC) obedience trial champion. Dogs of this breed are so willing to work for the people they are bonded with and always ready to please their families. Bred originally as hunters to retrieve wildfowl from both land and water, they can run tirelessly all day long. Like their close associates Labrador, the Golden Retriever also has webbed paws which make them excellent swimmers.

History & Origin:

According to the records available, Sir Dudley Marjoribanks (also known as Lord Tweedmouth) was responsible for breeding and developing Golden Retrievers in Scotland, during the years of approximately 1840 to 1890. Lord Tweedmouth was an avid hunter who used to live near the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland. In 1860s, he started developing this breed from black coated retrievers and Tweed Water Spaniel. The AKC registered the Golden Retriever in 1925 and the breed flourished through 30’s and 40’s, and since then never lost its popularity.
