English Bulldogs are tenacious in temperament and they are so confident more often when they get into situations they try to give it head on. These dogs have lots of power in them and when they want something, they’ll knock everybody in the way to get what they want. The English bulldog is one of the breed which is 100% developed by breeders (man-made). They are bred to have really strong head, powerful shoulders and tight little rear. English bulldogs are not the natural swimmers, their heavy body and short legs are not built for water. People just adore this breed because of its different but funny looks and they also made funny noises due to short muzzle. Though the breed is very lovable today, but in ancient times English Bulldogs were banned on the streets of Rome due to their fierce nature.
The breed looks so threatening firstly, due to their protruding under jaw which actually sticks out and shows their teeth. Secondly, their loose and wrinkly skin actually helps them during the fight. The loose skin even if hold by the opponent, the dog would still have the maneuverability. Thirdly, their loose face wrinkles help in drawing blood away from eyes during fight. Lastly, their wide shoulders and large head give them a stocky look. However, due its body shape English Bulldogs are often unable to give birth without assistance.
They remain to be national dog of England and during World War II English Bulldogs were referred to as the “Churchill Dog”, because they exemplify the courage and strength of England.
History & Origin:
During the 13th century in England the breed earned its name by bringing down bulls. When bull-baiting was banned in 1835 in England, the breed nearly went closer to get extinct. Luckily a group of bulldog admirers rescued the breed, and the breeders started to breed the dog for more appropriate temperament for human companionship.

English bulldogs are difficult to train as they want to do things their own way and if you do not show patience during the training the chances are your dog would become more stubborn.
English bulldog dog breed generally do not do well in the heat and if you live in the hot weather areas this breed would not be suitable for you. Some of the English Bulldogs have very small nostrils, due to which they breathe a lot with their mouth open and gulping or swallowing lot of air they fart a lot. So you either be tolerant of their farts or keep room fresheners.
In term of health, the English bulldog dog breed is one of the least healthy. This breed suffers from various congenital and hereditary diseases like, heart diseases as well as diseases involving orthopedic system.
English bulldog would require grooming on almost daily basis due to their wrinkles and folds. These wrinkles and folds are the areas which can trap moisture which can lead to skin infection.
English bulldog dog breed has a life expectancy of 8-10 years.
Is English Bulldog A Family Dog?
If you get upset by lot of slobbering and farts smell then this breed is not for you. But if you can ignore this, English bulldog is a fun dog to keep in the family; they love their owner and do very well with children.
