About Beagle Dog Breed:

Beagle is one of the most popular and beloved hound breed across the world. They are very charming and upbeat dog breed. The breed can be easily recognized by its typical hound colors: white, black and brown. Beagles are true hounds which were bred to running across the field and chasing rabbits. Being so low to the ground (short height), Beagles do not require to stop to catch a scent while tracking during a hunt. Beagles have a very powerful nose with over 220 million scent receptors, their wet nose helps them to hold and track the scent molecules of the prey. They can also differentiate the smells and can remember it for future. Beagle’s 7 inches long ears also play an important role in capturing and keeping the smell near to their nose.

Beagle’s are one of the most vocal dogs, not only their bark is one of the loudestbut they also howl a lot. Their loud bark is due to the amazing vocal cords, which vibrates when air passes through them, allowing Beagle to make different sounds. Beagles can vocalize in three different ways. One, when alerted or if they want something, they would have a normal standard bark. Two, whenout on trail, they would bay or yodel, to alert their owner and fellow pooches that they are on track or have found something. Lastly, Beagles loves to howl, it howls when it’s sad, bored or even for fun.Beagles are not a good dog breed for apartment lifestyle as their howling can make them a nuisance to the neighbors who like peace and quiet surroundings.

History & Origin:

Centuries of breeding have crafted this dog into almost perfect hound. Beagles, as we know today were even popular during Middle Ages, The Renaissance Period (1400’s) or even far back in Roman Empire times. The breed is so old that there are no historical evidences available for their ancestry. However, it has been suggested that the word “Beagle” has been derived from the French begueule, meaning gaped or open throat.
