History & Origin:
Akita’s are known to be very primitive dogs on the planet, still very closely linked to the wolves. They were originated from the snowy region of the Akita prefecture in northern Japan. The dog is built for rugged tracking in polar environment; its long legs and muscular structure allow it to climb steep mountains and getting out of deep snow.
Akita’s are the member of Spitz or Nordic dog family known for fluffy tightly curled tails, alert fully pricked ears and plush fur with double coat. The outer layer of the coat is coarse which provides protection from chilly weather while the inner coat is very dense, soft and wooly. In fact the breed faced extinction during the World War II when they were killed for their pelts for lining the coats of Japanese soldiers.

Akita’s are not small dogs and they are very strong, they would need an early training to become a good human companion. The training would establish the relation between owner and dog, so that they would follow their owner when grown fully.
